Dig In Wins Gold at Chorley Flower Show for the Second Year Running

We are delighted to announce that Dig In has been awarded a Gold Award at the 2026 Chorley Flower Show, marking our second consecutive year of gold at one of the north west’s premier gardening events.

This year’s display garden was inspired by the classic film The Bridge on the River Kwai. Designed and built entirely by our staff and volunteers, the centrepiece was a handcrafted replica of the famous bridge spanning a flowing stream, surrounded by lush tropical planting reminiscent of the jungles of Southeast Asia. Hidden amongst the foliage were a miniature train crossing the bridge and a carefully positioned detonator and dynamite, recreating the film’s dramatic climax.

The garden proved to be a real talking point throughout the weekend. Many visitors who remembered the film shared their memories and spoke movingly about family members who had served in the Far East or had worked on the Burma Railway during the Second World War. Younger visitors were equally captivated, eagerly searching for the train and delighting in spotting the details hidden within the display.

As a veteran-led charity, the theme held particular significance for us. While inspired by a much-loved film, the garden also provided an opportunity to remember the courage, resilience and sacrifice of those whose real experiences formed the backdrop to the story.

Winning gold for a second year is a wonderful achievement and a testament to the creativity, craftsmanship and dedication of everyone involved in bringing the garden to life. We are incredibly proud of our team and would like to thank everyone who visited our display, shared their stories and helped make this year’s show such a memorable occasion.

We are already looking forward to returning to Chorley Flower Show next year!
