This year for Remembrance Day our team got busy making Tommy Figures after their popularity last year. The creative bunch in the workshop came up with new designs this year to represent all branches of the Armed Forces. These new designs proved just as popular as our traditional Tommy Figures and kept the team very busy in the run up to Remembrance Day. The money raised from the sale of the figures this year is being used to replenish some of our consumables in the workshop like sanding belts and saw blades which we get through quite a lot of!
Last month we were asked by our friends at the Veterans Foundation if we were able to make a life-sized Tommy Figure. We had never attempted one this size before but in true Dig In style, we gave it a go. One of our service users, Luke super-sized our Tommy template on to a HUGE piece of wood and the 6ft Tommy figure was born. He is now travelling all over the country with the Veterans Foundation raising funds for Veterans charities. We are extremely proud of Luke and the skills he has gained since joining the team.
This year, as part of our Bloomin Marvellous project we also made a wooden poppy wreath which one of our Veterans laid at The Remembrance service at UCLAN. The wreath was made by our veterans and students and staff from UCLAN. Everyone involved really enjoyed this project and it was an honour for us to be part of the service at UCLAN.
